We formed Bamboo Living in 2003 to meet the growing demand for bamboo homes. Rizome Fundraising Campaign

Dear Friends,

I started Bamboo Living to provide a beautiful alternative to cutting down trees to build homes.

I started a second company called RIZOME to address the climate crisis.

RIZOME is planting giant clumping bamboo to rapidly drawdown CO2 and then locking that CO2 up in dimensional building materials.

We recently signed our first carbon credit contract to drawdown millions of tons over the next decade.

For the sake of future generations and life on earth, we need to expand that drawdown to billions of tons of CO2 as quickly as possible.

A conversion of 12.8% of global construction to bamboo-based materials would reverse the climate crisis due to the direct drawdown of CO2 by the bamboo and the lock up in the building materials as well as the CO2 emissions avoided by replacing wood, steel and concrete.

Announcing the Crowdfunding Campaign for RIZOME

Our sister company RIZOME is leading a new bamboo movement! RIZOME is on the path to make engineered bamboo lumber the go-to construction material around the globe.

RIZOME is currently planting thousands of acres of bamboo in one of the largest carbon sequestration projects on the planet. This monumental effort will make history for climate change, and they need your help to make it happen!

RIZOME’s mission is to sequester 10 gigatons of CO2 by 2050 by making bamboo engineered lumber a major climate-positive global construction material. Your investment will support planting more than 10 million clumps by 2025 and building more than 1,000 sustainable processing facilities by 2050, all while making a great return.

Crowdfunding Details: For the next 30-60 days we’ll be offering an opportunity for non-accredited investors to participate in this journey together. More than $500,000 of the $1.07m round has already been committed even before the round opens, so it is on track to become one of the fastest funded projects in crowdfunding history! The minimum investment is only $100, and this will be the last opportunity for individual investors with under $250k to invest. 

There is also an early bird bonus with a preferred valuation to reward early investors.

Use of Funds: The additional $1.07m will support manufacturing expansion in SE Asia and set the company up for a major institutional funding round mid-2021. Our factory expansion will put the company in a strong positive cash flow position which gives us much better leverage for ongoing funding. The Regulation CF limit was recently raised from $1m to $5m, so we may also choose to keep the round open for an additional 30-60 days.

Dear Bamboo Enthusiasts,

I am excited to let you know about an important project I have been working on for some time. As you know, I have a long-term commitment to protecting the environment, and 25 years ago, those green-focused ideals led us to create Bamboo Living.

Today we’re announcing Bamboo Living’s sister company, RIZOME.

RIZOME is implementing one of the most powerful strategies for addressing the climate crisis by developing engineered bamboo products as replacements for wood, concrete, and steel.

As Bill Gates notably said:

“The number of buildings in the world is going to double by 2060. It is like we are going to build a new New York City every month for the next 40 years.  It’s a gigantic amount of materials.  Steel, cement, wood, all emitting greenhouse gases. We are going to have to figure out how to make all these things in a different way.”  

With RIZOME, we are creating that different way.

Last year we opened our first production facility in the Philippines, and we already have a commitment for the entire output of bamboo materials that we can produce there.

As I have been spending more time on RIZOME these days, Ciro Podany has become the Lead Project Architect at Bamboo Living. Ciro has worked closely with me for some years now, and he will continue to support our clients and design the best bamboo buildings on the planet.

Bamboo Living is working with RIZOME to create a new series of home designs, furniture, and home furnishings that use the dimensional bamboo materials which RIZOME is developing. We will be rolling out a number of new designs in the near future, and we can’t wait to share them with you!

We will soon be opening a Bamboo Living showroom in Pahoa, on the Big Island of Hawaii, to showcase our newest bamboo products. We look forward to having you visit us in our new space and seeing for yourself why bamboo is the future.
