A Shoot is Planted.

During an inspirational walk through the bamboo forest in Maui in 1994, our founder Jeffree Trudeau committed to making his dream a reality - creating bamboo homes as an out-of-the-box solution to the tremendous resource strain caused by conventional building practices. Shortly after (as synchronicity would have it), he met co-founder architect David Sands, and together they began to co-create their eco vision.

In 1996 Jeffree and David completed the first prototype bamboo home in Maui.  The shoot was planted.  In 2002 Bamboo Living became the first company in the world to offer International Code Council (ICC-ES) approved bamboo Green Homes

In 2006, Bamboo Living built the largest bamboo house ever constructed in America.
Word spread.  One green home in Maui led to 150 eco-friendly homes in the Hawaiian Islands, Caribbean, and the South Pacific.  Thanks to the first crop of progressive and eco-minded homeowners, we were able to open our Bamboo Works facility near Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, which now employs over 160 local artisan craftspeople.
