About Bamboo Technologies

Bamboo Vision. Bamboo Technologies (BT) was created in 1995 as a shared vision to create an environmentally sustainable housing alternative in the building industry. Bamboo was chosen because of its superior ability to create biomass and replenish the earth’s clean oxygen supply, offering high quality, beautiful structural material.
First Houses. The first prototype of a bamboo home as a permitted structure in the Western building system was completed by David Sands and Jeffree Trudeau in 1996 in Maui, Hawaii. It was prefabricated on site with the first poles from Vietnam. These poles were all pressure treated with boric acid and then coated with a clear no-VOC finish. To this day they look the same as they did the day they were erected.
Quality Control Research. With the Int'l Bamboo Foundation (IBF), BT funded research for 7 years to certify bamboo as a home building material. In 1999, BT initiated an Evaluation Criteria Report with the Int'l Congress of Building Officials (ICBO). This research on the species of bamboo produced in Vietnam under quality control guidelines was provided to the ICC.
Structural Bamboo Certification. The ICC Evaluation Service Report ESR-1636 (Nov. 2004) states that Structural Bamboo Poles produced by BT comply with the following codes: 2003 International Building Code (IBC), 2003 International Residental Code (IRC) and 1997 Uniform Building Code (UBC). Certified bamboo from BT will be available for architects, designers, builders.
World's premier company for bamboo houses. BT is the first to offer engineered, manufactured, building code approved bamboo homes in the USA, and is the leader in the international certification of bamboo as a building material.
Bamboo Hardwoods, Vietnam. Through 9 years of pioneering research, development and testing, BT has been building homes at its own certified bamboo house factory in Vietnam, chosen because of Vietnam's history of managing sustainable bamboo forests and their fine craftsmanship.
Worldwide Sales Network. BT is building a global network of independent sales representatives and distributors. BT has sales reps in Hawaii, California, Washington, Florida, New York, the Caribbean, Central America and Pacific Islands.
Building Strategic Alliances. BT is developing strategic alliances to distribute Bamboo Living® Homes across the world, promote emergency relief and affordable housing through NGOs, and joint venture production facilities in bamboo countries.
INBAR Global Partner. BT is a partner with INBAR (International Network for Bamboo and Rattan) based in Beijing, China in the Global Housing Programme for the promotion of bamboo building systems worldwide. INBAR and BT signed a Memorandum of Understanding.
Mission Statement. BT envisions the preservation and restoration of the native and natural forests of the world by replacing wood with bamboo products. BT is committed to providing strong, long lasting, aesthetic and cost-effective bamboo structural and finish materials for construction. BT is vigilant in promoting bamboo propagation, harvesting, manufacturing and building in an ecologically safe manner for the ecosystems and the people of the world.
